We briefly review several universal theoretical methods for computing scatte ring properties of nonspherical particles, discuss the implications of particle nonsphericity for remote sensing of mineral tropospheric aerosols and cirrus cloud particles, and examine the effect of particle shape on the aerosol and cloud radiative forcing of climate.
