Malingreau, J.P., G. Stephens, and L. Fellows, 1985: Remote sensing of forest fires: Kalimantan and North Borneo in 1982-83. Ambio, 14, no. 6, 314-321.

Remote sensing by satellite is one of the more recent advances in telecommunications and has important applications for the environmental sciences. Satellite photos can show geological characteristics, identify weather patterns, and track natural disasters. The 1982-83 forest fires in Borneo provide an interesting case study of environmental remote sensing.
