Liepert, B., and A. Romanou, 2005: Global dimming and brightening and the water cycle. Bull. Amer. Meteorol. Soc., 86, 622-623.

Solar dimming and brightening have an effect on the water cycle. Although global warming is assumed to produce an intensified water cycle, climate simulations and meteorological observations indicate that evaporation and precipitation can be suppressed in a warmer, wetter world if less sunlight reaches Earth's surface because of cloud cover. Conversely, if more sunlight reaches Earth's surface in future, as recent observations suggest may happen, the water cycle will spin up again due to the still-increasing greenhouse warming.
