Hoffmann 1972

Hoffmann, W.F., 1972: Far-infrared observations of celestial objects by balloon-borne telescope. In Infrared Detection Techniques for Space Research. V. Manno and J. Ring, Eds., Astrophysics and Space Science Library, vol. 30, Springer Netherlands, pp. 41-52, doi:10.1007/978-94-010-2885-1_5.

A newly developed balloon gondola with 12 in. telescope has been flown a number of times in 1970 and 1971 making far-infrared observations of celestical sources. These include the planets Jupiter and Venus, the galactic center, a number of bright H π regions, and some dark dust clouds. The technical aspects of the balloon gondola and telescope system and some of these results will be discussed.
