ABSTRACT

Hogan and Grossman 1972

Hogan, J.S., and K. Grossman, 1972: Tests of a procedure for inserting satellite radiance measurements into a numerical circulation model. J. Atmos. Sci., 29, 797-800, doi:10.1175/1520-0469(1972)029<0797:TOAPFI>2.0.CO;2.

A number of iterative technqiues have been developed in recent years for retrieving vertical temperature profiles from satellite radiance measurement. Although these methods differ in details, all require the specification of an initial guess of the temperature distribution. We have developed an iterative technique for solving the integral equatin of radiative transfer, similar to the one developed by Chahine, but incorporating a modification suggested by Smith.
