Tubiello, F.N., and M. Oppenheimer, 1995: Impulse-response functions and anthropogenic CO2. Geophys. Res. Lett., 22, 413-416, doi:10.1029/94GL03276.
Non-linearities in the carbon-cycle make the response to CO2 perturbations highly dependent on emission history. We show that even when linear representations of the carbon cycle are used, the calculation of time scales characterizing the removal of excess CO2 depends on past emissions.
